Heating controls and EPC ratings

Missing or unsuitable controls may be worth reviewing before a major heating replacement. Their influence depends on what is already installed and recorded.

When is it worth investigating?

Check the programmer, room thermostat, radiator controls and system zoning. Identify the heating system and compatible controls before choosing hardware.

When might it be the wrong first step?

Do not add controls that conflict with the system or assume a smart thermostat alone delivers a specific EPC uplift. Some properties already have the controls an old certificate appears to omit.

How many EPC points could it add?

There is no universal points award. The current property, existing measures, installation specification and assessment methodology all matter. Use the recorded recommendation sequence or an assessor-reviewed scenario; do not add independent estimates together as a guaranteed result.

How much should you allow?

See the published cost benchmarks and request a quotation for the actual scope. The price of a measure is different from the cost of achieving a target rating.

What should happen first?

Record the make, model and installed control arrangement. Ask the assessor to check the evidence and how the system is described.
