Do solar panels improve an EPC?

Solar PV can influence an EPC, but the benefit depends on the assessed property and the calculation method. A panel count alone cannot give a reliable score uplift.

When is it worth investigating?

Consider roof area, orientation, shading, condition and electrical supply. For a flat, establish who controls the roof and whether the installation can serve the assessed dwelling.

When might it be the wrong first step?

Do not buy a solar system solely to avoid investigating weak insulation. Compare its role with the building fabric, heating and future methodology. A tenant’s actual electricity use is separate from standardised EPC assumptions.

How many EPC points could it add?

There is no universal points award. The current property, existing measures, installation specification and assessment methodology all matter. Use the recorded recommendation sequence or an assessor-reviewed scenario; do not add independent estimates together as a guaranteed result.

How much should you allow?

See the published cost benchmarks and request a quotation for the actual scope. The price of a measure is different from the cost of achieving a target rating.

What should happen first?

Check roof work needs, permissions, system specification and connection requirements. Keep handover evidence for the assessor.
